Our book of the month for October, Women's History Month in Canada, is Beckoned by the Sea by Silvia Taylor (who worked as a deckhand for many years). A recent publication (2017) Taylor shares the stories of women whose lives are intrinsically connected to the Pacific Northwest coast and waters, both through work and seemingly through lays of attraction.
Locals featured are Vi Mundy, Mary Kimoto, Ellen Crowe-Swords, Tsimka Martin, and Josie Osborne. She tells of what's motivated them to do the work they do, challenges they've overcome, and where they've found success and support.
